The one program that says it takes a CDL permit
ALBAT accepts a valid Class A CDL with air brakes, or a copy of your driver’s license plus a Class A temporary permit with air brakes. Either one has to be valid when you apply and again when you’re selected. SELCAT, MSLCAT and SWLCAT say no permits and the others don’t say, so if you’re still working on your CDL, ALBAT is the place you can apply now.
The aptitude test comes first
ALBAT schedules every applicant for an aptitude test before any interview, and emails the test date two to four weeks ahead. Its own pages don’t name the test or publish a passing score.
Prep sites say it’s the electrical training ALLIANCE aptitude test, the one Mo Valley, SWLCAT and NW Line name: algebra and functions (33 questions, 46 minutes) and reading comprehension (36 questions, 51 minutes). The section lengths they quote match ETA’s, but ALBAT hasn’t said it publicly. What that test covers.
Six tracks, each with its own hours
ALBAT runs outside line, substation and cable splicer apprenticeships at 7,000 hours, transmission and URD at 4,000, and traffic signal at 6,000. The standby list lasts one year. To be re-interviewed you need 450 documented hours of electrical line construction or two related college classes.
What the job pays
Union journeyman lineman rates in ALBAT’s states come from federal prevailing-wage determinations, which adopt the local union’s negotiated rate. We couldn’t find an apprentice pay ladder ALBAT publishes in readable form.
